For businesses who intend to provide high risk supports but are not yet engaged with any participants can undertake the NDIS Provisional audit process.
During a Provisional NDIS Audit, auditors assess the provider's compliance with specific NDIS Practice Standards relevant to their scope of services. The audit focuses on key areas such as service delivery, participant outcomes, risk management, governance, and operational processes. The aim is to ensure that the provider meets the required standards for delivering safe, effective, and quality services to NDIS participants.
One of our NDIS specialists will send an electronic proposal outlining the terms and the details of the process.
After having signed with JPS, we will assign you an auditor and audit date. You will also receive a designated Client Services Officer who will assist you in the preparation of your audit documentation.
Once the documentation is complete, you will be assigned an auditor and an audit date. Provisional audits can take 1 to 2 days and will include a review of your documentation against the NDIS Standards.
The audit report is written by the auditor and reflects the findings of the audit. A copy of this report will be sent to you
Once the audit report has been completed and reviewed, it will be uploaded to the Commission portal alongside the submitted documentation.
The Commission will review the documents that have been submitted to the portal and will notify you of the outcome of registration. Please note that the Commission will not contact JPS and will contact you directly.
Providers are required to undergo a midterm audit 18 months after registration. Please note that with a provisional audit, once you begin providing services to at least one participant, you must re-register with a certification audit.
Recertification after 3 years of registration NDIS Registration lapses every three years. Should you wish to remain NDIS registered, you will be required to undergo the audit process again.
During the audit, our auditors will review documents you share that provide evidence of how you comply with the Certification Module of the NDIS Practice Standards.
Certification includes an assessment of the following elements:
1. Rights of participants and responsibilities of providers
2. Provider governance and operational management
3. Provision of supports
4. Support provision environment
Module 1: High intensity daily personal activities
If NDIS providers require the skills in the following areas you may need an assessment against this module:

- Tracheostomy Care
- Urinary Catheters
- Ventilation
- Subcutaneous Injections
- Manage Diabetes
- High Risk of Seizures
- Pressure Care and Wound Management

Module 2: Specialist behaviour support
Your organisation will be assessed on your skills in ‘Creating individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.’
Module 2A: Implementing behaviour support
If you are responsible for implementing the support plans outlined in the previous module, you may be required to also fulfil an assessment to this module.
Module 3: Early childhood supports
If you are in any way involved with children you will need to be assessed against this module.
Module 4: Specialist support coordination

support to implement, monitor and review their support plans and reduce the risk and
complexity of their situation you may need an assessment.
Module 5: Specialist disability accommodation

How long does an audit take?
This ultimately depends on the type of audit you need, your audit readiness, and the size of your company. There is a preparation process prior to the audit commencing, which can be completed at your own pace. In most cases, the audit itself can be a relatively short process, usually from 1 day, to 3 or 4. Once the audit is completed, there is a 2 to 4 week period for us to finalise your audit report and submit this to the NDIS Commission for approval.
How much does an audit cost?
The cost of an audit depends on the amount of work we have to do in order to assess your organisation against the NDIS Practice Standards. Prices vary based on:
We are more than happy to provide a free no obligation quote so feel free to book a call or chat directly. Please have your 'Initial Scope of Audit' document ready when you call. You can upload it here.
How do I choose my auditor?
Ultimately, choosing and engaging an auditor is up to you. There are a number of organisations such as JPS Audit Specialists across Australia that have been appointed as NDIS Approved Auditing Bodies. Once you have your 'Initial Scope of Audit', you can contact us to find out how we would conduct your audit and what we would charge. The audit process can often feel quite daunting and selecting your audit body is an important decision. You want to select an experienced audit body that you feel most comfortable working with. You can book in a call to speak with us here. If you have your Initial Scope of Audit ready you can upload it to our website to receive a no-obligation quote.
How do I know what modules I will need to be assessed against?
The types of support and services you deliver will determine which modules you will be assessed against. You can find out more here.
What is an 'Initial Scope of Audit'?
An 'Initial Scope of Audit' summarises the registration requirements that apply to your organisation. It is provided by the NDIS Commission after you have completed your application for registration. It will outline whether you require a ‘verification’ or ‘certification’ audit and what your organisation needs to demonstrate to comply with the relevant NDIS Practice Standards. You can find an example of an Initial Scope of Audit here. Please have this document ready when you reach out to us. You can upload it to our website here.
Can I provide support to participants before my audit has begun?
It depends. You can provide support to self and plan managed participants whenever you like. However, it is imperative that you disclose this information to your auditor. Please note however, that if you are undertaking a provisional audit, you cannot provide services to any participants at all. We recommend you contact the Commission directly if you would like further clarification and information.
